Earlier this year (January 2016), V Magazine released an issue that paid tribute to fashion icons Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow through a photo shoot featuring singer, Lady Gaga and artist/photographer/musician, Daphne Guinness. Steven Klein photographed the tribute in a way that truly captured and showcased the McQueen pieces from the Isabella Blow archives.
Isabella Blow was a fashion magazine editor who discovered Alexander McQueen and was close friends with the Guinness family. However, both McQueen and Blow committed suicide in early 2000's after which Daphne Guinness bought Blow's archives, including the early McQueen collections. This photo shoot, in particular, represents the first time Guinness will wear pieces from the collection, allowing her to reconnect with her deceased friends.
Who better to wear the collection than people connected to the designer? Guinness and Gaga pose in attention grabbing shoots that truly capture the essence of McQueen's designs. Gaga states, "What's sacred about today is that it's Daphne and I, two women who loved McQueen very much, and Steven Klein, a man who loved him very much. And it's a man and a woman who also loved Issie. And another man, McQueen, who loved Issie. And a young girl who never got to meet her but admires and loves her very much. This is about true talents and helping them to be remembered the way they should be."
